About APNLC
Alexandra Park Neighbourhood Learning Centre is an adult literacy centre located in downtown Toronto. We are a non-profit, community-based organization, proudly serving our community in Alexandra Park for over forty years.
We offer learner-centred adult education classes that focus on the literacy needs of the learners. Classes are designed to offer students the opportunity to upgrade their literacy skills in order to prepare for college, employment, or apprenticeship programs.
Learners also join our classes for their own independent enjoyment. Our programs are free, and we offer a variety of supports to assist learners in attending our classes.
What is Literacy?
Having adequate literacy skills means being able to understand, evaluate, use and engage with written texts.
It also means being able to participate in society, achieve your goals, and develop your knowledge and potential.

APNLC is a delivery partner of the Get SET (Skills, Education, and Training) program. Get SET provides participants with reading, writing, math, computer, and other skills to further their education, apprenticeship training, and employment opportunities.
People who are interested in the Get SET program at APNLC will first complete an intake and assessment process. After that, you will work with an instructor to create a learning plan and develop the skills you need to achieve your goals of further education, training, employment, or independence.
To be eligible for a Get SET program, you must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Ontario. This program is for people who have reading, writing, and/or math skills below the Grade 12 level. You should be able to speak and listen well enough to benefit from lessons in the language of instruction (English).
Get SET programs are free.

"The staff at APNLC are helpful and respectful. The programs helped me to realize that a sense of community and human connection are very important universal human needs."
