The Skills for Learning Integrated with Community Employment (S.L.I.C.E) program is a program for youth ages 18-29 who are out of school and unemployed. The S.L.I.C.E. program works in partnership with Scadding Court Community Centre to assist youth in achieving their overall employment goals. The program assists youth to upgrade their education and skills through:
- One-on-one goal setting and planning
- Academic and Essential Skills upgrading
- Life-skills/Pre-employment workshops
- Paid Job-shadowing/Job-placement
The paid placement job opportunities have been made possible through partnerships with Scadding Court Community and the Institute of Child Study. These placements give S.L.I.C.E. participants the opportunity to develop their workplace skills while gaining experience in their employment field of interest. The opportunities for job placement currently include children and youth day camps; the SCCC Greenhouse Café; Urban Agriculture program; the Outdoor Street Market; and the Young Women’s Drop-In program.
